OIT currently makes use of Dell and Lenovo for machine purchases. Each laptop and desktop given to a user must be built according to a set of guidelines. Adherence to these guidelines ensures machine and policy uniformity, along with helping avoid potential user confusion. Each user receives a machine for four years, barring any hardware failure or dissatisfaction. Upon reaching the four-year mark, users receive a new machine, while their old computer is re-purposed for additional service.
Full-time staff and faculty receive Tier 1 (typically brand-new) machines along with one (or two) monitors. If the use-case of a staff or faculty member dictates a laptop, then a docking station, mouse, and keyboard will also be provided. Part-time staff and faculty receive Tier 2 machines (typically older).
